THE PROJECT
Wisely (WIreless Sensor nEtworks for soiL analysiS) aims to design a new device and ICT platform for terrain monitoring that can cover two key specific goals: Configurability and Standardization.
- CONFIGURABILITY
The device will enable the retrieval of important data such as: water consumption, temperature and soil moisture using local sensors. These data will be correlated with environmental data such as: weather forecast and/or other parameters that can significantly change the outcome of the forecast. A key feature of this device is the extreme configurability of the data that are collected, the possibility of making them available to the user and through the Internet allow their correlation with heterogeneous data that cannot be collected locally. - STANDARDIZATION
Wisely adheres to communication and interface standards through Open APIs in order to ensure “growth” outside of Wisely as well. One of the overarching research goals of the WISELY project will be to create a true “data ecosystem” in which the availability of data, the existence of algorithms capable of processing it, and the creation of end-user applications capable of enhancing it will be based on an open approach to possible future integrations.
THE PRODUCT
WISELY’s Hardware/Software framework is the innovative element of the project:
Integrated monitoring
Integrated monitoring of water needs based on real-time, point-in-time soil analysis.
Infrastructure Development
Integrated IT-Embedded infrastructure adapted for communication with sensor devices.
Device Development
Development of low-cost measurement devices and related radio communication (low power, high range).
AREAS OF INTEREST
The smart sensor we are creating will allow you to keep an eye on your vegetable garden! The wireless sensor measures two important factors that influence a vegetable’s growing circumstances: temperature and humidity.
ICT
Creating an ICT platform that can design a low-cost sensor network and collect measurements in real time. WISELY has a focus on open data in a threefold way:
- Data collected from sensors on the ground will be made available in open data
- Wisely will use Open data for locally undetectable data such as pollution and weather forecasts
- Wisely will present open data to users in user friendly mode.
Device Development
Design of a new low-cost measurement device for agriculture is consistent with the Agrifood area of specialization and in particular functional to the goal of:
- Improve the regional production system of traditional enterprises in agriculture
- Improve Agribusiness processes (production, sales, marketing,) through ICT technologies
- The enhancement of local production and the application of research and innovation.
