THE PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

CARROTS, an acronym for Cooperative ARchitecture for gaRdening with Open moniToring Systems, is the result of the collaboration between Tomappo and Lifely. It is a project funded by the EU within the TETRAMAX project. The goal of the project is to develop a product that can provide users with real-time plant data and garden care tips.

OBJECTIVES

CARROTS aims to solve several gardening-related problems, including hobbyists’ lack of time and effort, lack of soil and plant data, and difficulty finding accurate gardening information. The developed smart sensor will allow you to monitor the temperature and humidity of the garden in a simple and efficient way.

TECHNOLOGY AND METHODOLOGIES

The sensor uses CLEC (custom low energy computing) technology and includes sensors for humidity, brightness, and temperature. It features Wi-Fi connectivity and requires minimal maintenance thanks to the rechargeable battery. The software is open source and Arduino compatible, allowing users to customize the system to their needs. The companion app offers detailed descriptions of more than 60 vegetables, localized weather forecasts, and a gardening journal to track activities.

MISSION AND IMPACT

Tomappo and Lifely are working to transform the CARROTS system into a CLEC cyber-physical system capable of providing more accurate and personalized care to gardeners. The system will identify ideal conditions for plant growth and prevent pests and diseases before they spread, helping to improve the health and productivity of users’ gardens.
