THE PROJECT

DESCRPTION

IntellIoT is a pan-European research and innovation project that represents an advancement over current Smart Home systems that can make an effective and direct impact on measurements collected by performing an action locally. It is intended to integrate an existing IoT device developed by Lifely into a useful AI-IoT collaborative system. Agrumino is a low-cost, open source device for social gardening. Supported by Wi-Fi communication technology, Agrumino devices could be integrated with actuators and other smart home devices to interact locally and offer an automated and customized solution to improve indoor comfort and reduce energy consumption for heating and cooling.

OBJECTIVES

The goal of the project is to integrate Agrumino, an IoT device, into an AI-IoT system to improve home comfort and reduce energy consumption. The system will be able to detect indoor and outdoor weather conditions and adjust blinds and windows accordingly. We will create smart home devices that adapt to users’ habits to maximize comfort and reduce energy consumption.

TECHNOLOGIES AND METHODOLOGIES

The proposed system uses Wi-Fi technology for communication between devices and actuators. It also uses artificial intelligence to process collected data and make decisions about opening and closing windows and shutters based on indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. User interaction is through an application that follows a Human In the Loop (HIL) paradigm, allowing users to adjust system settings to maximize effectiveness.

MISSION AND IMPACT

The project is part of the pan-European IntellIoT research and innovation program, supported by the European Commission with €8 million in funding. It aims to develop humanized IoT and AI devices and systems, with the goal of strengthening the European market in applicable solutions in the healthcare, agriculture and manufacturing sectors. The proposed solution aims to reduce energy consumption while maximizing living comfort, with AI achieving a degree of accuracy above 90 percent, accepted by users. This makes it possible to reduce the maximum temperature on hot days by up to 2 degrees in closed rooms in total autonomy, without the need for intervention or air conditioning systems, through the implementation of the IntellIoT project components, making the solution transferable, scalable and effective.
